There is something incredibly special about photographing a surprise proposal on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Lots of planning, a little nail biting leading up to a moment full of anticipation, excitement, and emotion—and when everything comes together, it's pure magic!
Collin knew he wanted to ask Parker to spend forever with him while on vacation with family on the Outer Banks. He also knew he needed a little help keeping it a complete surprise. That's where his mom, Lori, stepped in. Over the weeks leading up to the proposal, Lori and I talked and texted countless times, carefully planning every detail. From choosing the perfect location in Duck at the Four Seasons community, to coordinating how Parker's parents would be nearby to witness the moment, every piece of the puzzle was thoughtfully put into place.
Of course, Mother Nature decided to keep us on our toes.
As the big day approached, the forecast became less than ideal, and for a while, we weren't sure if the proposal would happen as planned. We created many "Plan B's" just in case! After so much preparation, it was hard not to worry. But with a little faith, plenty of prayers, and a bit of Outer Banks luck, the skies cleared just in time. We were blessed with beautiful weather and the perfect stretch of beach in the Four Seasons community in Duck, North Carolina.
With the plan back on track, I tucked myself beneath the beach access deck steps, hidden from view but with the perfect vantage point. My heart was racing almost as much as Collin's as I waited for them to arrive.
When I saw Collin and Parker walking toward the beach, Collin and I locked eyes for just a second. It was our silent confirmation that everything was going according to plan. He casually led Parker farther down the beach, away from the evening crowd, while I quietly followed at a distance, staying out of sight and capturing every moment I could with my zoom lens.

Then came one of my favorite unexpected moments of the evening.
Parker spotted a little ghost crab and bent down to try to catch it. Collin glanced back toward me, probably wondering where I had disappeared to. We shared a quick smile that said everything without a single word—it was almost time.
A few more steps down the shoreline, Collin stopped, turned toward Parker, and dropped to one knee.
In an instant, time seemed to stand still. Surprise gave way to tears, laughter, and overwhelming joy as Parker realized what was happening. Gathering her composure, she yelled YES to Collin and he placed the ring on her finger.
One of my favorite parts is when my presence is revealed! The surprise becomes so much more elated when they realize the entire thing was caught on camera!

But the fun didn't stop here! We began by capturing a few newly engaged photos of Collin and Parker by the shoreline. These are some of my favorite photos to capture because there is so much emotion from the proposal, excitement to be engaged, and lots of love found in each pose and look.
Collin had one more surprise up his sleeve! I asked if we should get his parents down here to celebrate and congratulate the moment? They both said yes and Collin made a quick phone call. As the group made their way down the steps to the beach, Parker began to realize it was not just Collin's parents coming towards them!
Parker saw her family as well and the tears started again! Seeing everyone come together to celebrate made the proposal even more meaningful.
Being trusted to document moments like these is something I'll never take for granted. The planning, the secrecy, the nerves, the weather, the excitement—it all led to one unforgettable "yes."
Congratulations, Collin and Parker! Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of such a beautiful beginning. Wishing you both a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and adventures together.
